  26.     Ah yes. The writer is using a different display character set than
  27. you are, and the transmission software had not a clue about how to deal
  28. with character sets. 
  29.     At the risk of preaching to the choir, Kermits know how to deal with 
  30. this cleanly and effectively, for terminal emulation and file transfer.
  31.     You did not indicate which platform you were using to read the
  32. traffic so advice is a little limited here. May I suggest trying MSK
  33. on a DOS machine, and change your DOS Code Page to match the other end
  34. (try CP850 first, versus the default CP437). The finer points of character
  35. sets and Kermits are explained at length in the user's manuals: "Using
  36. MS-DOS Kermit" and "Using C Kermit." Worth reading more about it, as we
  37. keep saying to people.
  38.         Btw, the terms "standard-european-display" and "iso-accent-mode"
  39. are extremely vague when referring to character sets. Please read our 
  40. manuals to obtain a firmer grip than Emacs can exert.
